KU PHARMACY CAMP DRAWS STATEWIDE ATTENDANCE

LAWRENCE -- Nineteen high school students from all over Kansas recently attended the School of Pharmacy Summer Camp at the University of Kansas.

The camp, held in early June, was created especially for high school students to come to KU and learn about the many career opportunities that are available in the pharmacy profession, said Jack E. Fincham, KU dean of pharmacy.

This is the second year for the program. Last year's inaugural camp attracted seven participants.

"It is during this time in their lives that many students begin serious consideration of a career path," said Gene Hotchkiss, assistant to the KU dean of pharmacy. "We believe it is important to facilitate the opportunity the pharmacy camp provides to students at the high school level."

The camp program included a number of hands-on sessions in pharmacy practice skills and field trips to several hospitals, retail and specialty pharmacy practice sites and the pharmacy department at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. Pharmacy practitioners from the Lawrence area also described their experiences in pharmacy practice settings.
