Center for Research sponsors funding forum

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Center for Research is sponsoring "KUCR Research Funding Forum 2001" from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the KU Computer Center auditorium.

The forum focuses on research and development funding opportunities in education and the social, behavioral and physical sciences. The free event includes a box lunch and is open to KU researchers. Individual presentations will last 20 minutes with ample time for questions and discussion. To register, contact Michelle Miller, KUCR outreach coordinator, at 864-7472 or mmiller@ku.edu.

The morning program, from 8 a.m. to noon, features a live, interactive Internet presentation by National Science Foundation program directors for computer and engineering sciences, education and undergraduate studies, social and economic sciences, behavioral and cognitive sciences, and biology. Also, Advance, a new program to support women in science, engineering and technology, will be introduced.

The afternoon program, from 1 to 5 p.m., features Kansas state EPSCoR directors from the National Aeronatics and Space Administration, the departments of Defense and Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as NSF and the newly created NIH IDeA programs. Robert Barnhill, vice chancellor for research and public service, will discuss KU's national research standing. Individual presentations will last 20 minutes, with ample time for questions and discussion.
