KU students to host International Awareness Week April 11-16

LAWRENCE -- Five hundred elementary and high school children from Lawrence, Baldwin City, Lecompton and Tonganoxie will join students at the University of Kansas to experience the numerous cultures represented on campus during KU's 52nd annual International Awareness Week, April 11 through 16.

International Awareness Week events include:

 • International Jeopardy, 5 to 8 p.m. Monday April 12, Pine Room in the Kansas Union. Students can test their international knowledge at this competition. Prizes will be awarded.

 • Game Night with Student Union Activities, 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday April 13, Hawk's Nest in the Kansas Union.

 • Belly dance workshop, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday April 14, Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave. Professional dancers will teach free of charge.  • International Fashion Show, 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday April 15, Kansas Union lobby.

 • Third annual Phi Beta Delta "Picture the World" International Photography Exhibit will open April 16 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

 • World Expo, noon to 5 p.m. April 16, Kansas Union ballroom. More than 40 countries will be represented as KU international students will set up table exhibits from their home country, dress in their cultural attire and play musical instruments.

 • Festival of Nations, 7 to 9 p.m. April 16, Kansas Union ballroom. International students will demonstrate their native cultures as they dance, play music and present other types of entertainment.
