KU Black Alumni Association to celebrate reunion with programs, dance

LAWRENCE -- Members of the University of Kansas Black Alumni Association will be on campus this week for their annual reunion, which will include career enrichment programs, a student reception and a dance featuring live music and disc jockeys.

KU Black Alumni Week activities begin Wednesday, April 14, with "Corporate Career Connections" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Relays Room of the Burge Union. The event will give association members the opportunity to meet with KU students and representatives of area corporations. Topics of discussion on the agenda include the advantages of good grades, the importance of leadership and participation, the difficulty of the job search process, the value of diversity in the workplace and the benefits of internships and cooperatives.

A reception for Black Alumni Association members and current KU students will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 16, in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, 145 Strong Hall. The reception will allow current KU students to meet with alumni to discuss experiences at KU and in the "real world."

Members also are invited to attend the 77th annual Kansas Relays at Memorial Stadium's Jim Hershberger Track on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17.

Reunion events will conclude Saturday, April 17, with a dance at Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment will include a jazz show featuring Not Yet Quartet, an "Old School Funk" party with DJ Shawn, "Reggae on the Patio" with DJ Tucker from Club ISLA and an after party at 10 p.m. with DJ Scottie MC.

The Black Alumni Association, which was established in 1976, encourages black alumni to help KU continue to be not only a premier research institution but also an institution that promotes a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
