10 KU students share $6,500 in 2004-2005 awards from University Women's Club

LAWRENCE -- Four KU undergraduate women students are the recipients of the University Women's Club 2004-2005 annual scholarships to recognize high academic and personal achievements.

The $1,250 scholarship winners Brooke Barrett, Overland Park senior; Jessica Kimple, Beloit senior; Michelle Moran, Overland Park freshman; and Michelle Tran, Derby freshman. Also this year six additional $250 awards for textbooks were given to Alexis Bannwarth, Independence junior; April Bradshaw, Garden City senior; Jamie Labrier, McPherson junior; Justina Patterson, Pittsburg freshman; Shannon Snapp, Belleville senior; and Maya Tuylieva, Turkmenistan senior. The scholarships and awards, administered through the KU Endowment Association, were given at an April 1 awards luncheon on the KU campus.

Founded in 1900, the University Women's Club has since 1915 given about $65,000 in scholarships to KU women undergraduate and graduate students. Jane Kuwana of Lawrence is president of the organization that has about 260 members who are current or former full-time KU faculty and staff members or faculty or staff spouses. Janis Hutchison of Lawrence is chairwoman of the club's scholarship committee and president-elect.

Justina Patterson, freshman in pre-business and accounting, daughter of John and Janet Patterson: St. Mary's Colgan High School.

FINNEY COUNTY
From Garden City
April Bradshaw, senior in African and African-American Studies, daughter of Roger and Caroline Bradshaw; Garden City Senior High School.

JOHNSON COUNTY
From Overland Park
Brooke Barrett, senior in chemistry, daughter of Helen Krause; Olathe North High School.
Michelle Moran, freshman in environmental studies, daughter of Michael and Monique Moran; Blue Valley West High School.

MCPHERSON COUNTY
From McPherson
Jamie Labrier, junior in political science, daughter of Jimmy and Brenda Labrier; McPherson High School.

MITCHELL COUNTY
From Beloit
Jessica Kimple, senior in foreign languages in the School of Education, daughter of Kris and Melinda Kimple; Beloit Junior-Senior High School.
