KU Public Relations Student Society of America chapter announces officers

LAWRENCE -- Eight students in the University of Kansas School of Journalism and Mass Communications have been elected as officers in the KU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America for the 2004-05 academic year.

Matt Fortner, Olathe junior in journalism, strategic communications emphasis, was chosen as president. Other officers include Courtney Grimwood, Emporia junior, vice president; Jake Jones, Stillwater, Minn., sophomore, national organization liaison; Jennifer North, Cottonwood Falls senior, secretary; Jessica Fergen, Wellington sophomore, treasurer; and Elisa Zahn, Littleton, Colo., senior, professional development director. Other officers are Katie Means, Oskaloosa senior, director, and Lindsey Scott, Emporia senior, assistant director, both for Jayhawk Communications, a student-run public relations firm.

PRSSA meets once a month and introduces students to the public relations profession through such activities as professional lectures, regional and national conferences and the operation of Jayhawk Communications. The student-run firm provides news releases, brochures, videos and special-event planning for clients.

Katie Means, senior in journalism (strategic communications emphasis), daughter of Walter and Sue Means; Jefferson County North High School graduate.

JOHNSON COUNTY
From Olathe
Matt Fortner, junior in journalism (strategic communications emphasis), son of Richard and Rebecca Fortner; Olathe East High School graduate.

From Emporia
Courtney Grimwood, junior in journalism (strategic communications emphasis), daughter of Chuck and Margaret Grimwood; Emporia Senior High School graduate.
Lindsey Scott, senior in journalism (news and information emphasis), daughter of Robert and Karen Scott; Emporia Senior High School graduate.
