'Star Trek' authors Kevin Dilmore and Dayton Ward to be at KU April 29

LAWRENCE -- Kevin Dilmore, 1988 University of Kansas journalism graduate from Prairie Village, and co-author Dayton Ward, Kansas City, Mo., will sign copies of their books at Oread Books, level two in the Kansas Union at KU, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29. The book signing will feature three new novels published by Pocket Books: the first full-length Starfleet Corps of Engineers, titled "Foundations," and two Star Trek: The Next Generation titles, "A Time to Sow" and "A Time to Harvest."

The event, part of Oread Books' local authors series, is free and open to the public.

Since 2001, Dilmore and Ward also have collaborated on a series of connected Starfleet Corps of Engineers "e-books," five of which have been reprinted as mass-market paperbacks. The writing team also will publish the story "Field Expediency" in the anthology "Star Trek: Tales of the Dominion War" this summer.

Since 1997 Dilmore has been a contributing writer for Star Trek Communicator, a fan publication sanctioned by Paramount Pictures. His story "The Road to Edos" was published in October 2003 in the Star Trek: New Frontier anthology "No Limits." In 2003 Dilmore also published interviews with some of Star Trek's most popular authors in volumes of Star Trek Signature Editions. Dilmore previously worked as a newspaper editor and reporter for the Miami County Republic in Paola. His photographs, news stories and features have won numerous honors from state and national journalism organizations. Twice he has won the Kansas Press Association's highest award for in-depth reporting. He left the newspaper in 2003 to concentrate on freelance writing.

Ward is a software developer and freelance writer. He has published solo Star Trek-related short stories in the anthology "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" and the Star Trek: New Frontier anthology "No Limits." In addition to collaborating with Dilmore, he wrote the Star Trek novel "In the Name of Honor" and the science fiction novel "The Last World War." Ward also wrote stories for the upcoming horror collection "Family Plots" and the superhero anthology "Path of the Bold."
