KU admissions office plans 19 spring campus events to meet future Jayhawks

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Office of Admissions and Scholarships has announced its spring schedule, complete with 19 events to educate future Jayhawks about the university. The events include nine days for high school juniors and the Multicultural Road Show Feb. 23 through 25.

Heidi Simon, KU associate director of admissions, said she aims to reach more than 2,200 high school students, parents and counselors through the organized events in an attempt to spread information about KU throughout Kansas and surrounding areas.

Beginning Feb. 27, high school juniors will be able to receive a comprehensive introduction to KU through campus tours, information about student life and advice about how to prepare for the senior year in high school. Parents are encouraged to attend, and a small fee and preregistration are required. More than 1,000 high school juniors are expected to attend. The ninth and final junior day is April 30.

Multicultural programs such as Super Saturday will educate high school sophomores and juniors interested in multicultural resources and organizations at KU. On March 6, students will learn about admissions, scholarships, financial aid, housing, college preparation and multicultural support services. Spanish translators will be available on campus, and registration is available online.

From Feb. 23 through 25, KU's Multicultural Road Show travels to Kansas City, Kan., Topeka and Wichita. Students from ninth grade to the senior year in high school and their families are encouraged to attend. KU admissions representatives will go to Wichita East High School, 2301 E. Douglas, on Feb. 23; Sumner Academy, 1610 N. Eighth St., Kansas City, Kan., on Feb. 24; and Highland Park High School, 2424 California, Topeka, on Feb. 25. Receptions will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
