KU sets records for total spring enrollment, Lawrence campus enrollment

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas set a new record for total spring semester enrollment, as well as setting a new record for spring enrollment on the Lawrence campus.

Total spring enrollment for 2004 rose 1.1 percent to 27,772, surpassing the record set in spring 1993 of 27,569. Total spring enrollment includes students at the Lawrence campus, KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., and KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park.

For the Lawrence campus, spring enrollment rose 0.8 percent to 25,348, breaking the record set during spring 2003 of 25,156. Lawrence campus totals include the KU Edwards Campus. At the KU Medical Center, enrollment increased 5.1 percent in 2004 from 2003 -- 2,424 students now from 2,307 in 2003.

KU is the largest university in the Kansas Board of Regents system. KU has more Kansas residents enrolled --18,976 -- for spring 2004 than any other state university. KU increased its enrollment of Kansas residents in spring 2004 from spring 2003 by 405 students. KU also has more nonresidents enrolled -- 8,796 -- for spring 2004 than any other state university.The number of nonresident students enrolled at state universities is 17,835.

The Board of Regents figures show a system-wide increase of 779 students for a 1 percent increase in spring 2004 over spring 2003.The state's six state universities reported a combined enrollment of 82,025 students. The total number of Kansas residents enrolled at state universities is 64,190.
