Public memorial service for Chancellor W. Clarke Wescoe set for March 10

LAWRENCE -- A public memorial service for former University of Kansas Chancellor W. Clarke Wescoe will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, in the Central Court of KU's Spencer Museum of Art, 1301 Mississippi St. Wescoe and his late wife, Barbara, were extraordinarily generous patrons of the art museum.

Wescoe, the university's 10th chancellor from 1960 to 1969, died Feb. 29 in Kansas City, Kan. He was 83.

Overflow seating will be available in the museum's auditorium. A reception will follow the services at the Adams Alumni Center, where there will be a display of materials from the Wescoe years, including senior class banners.

Guests are encouraged to park in the university's Mississippi Street parking facility, located between the museum and the alumni center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kansas University Endowment Association.

Private burial services will take place at Pioneer Cemetery on KU's West Campus.
