All tickets to Clinton lecture at KU claimed in a few minutes

LAWRENCE -- It took fewer than 25 minutes today for the public to claim all available tickets to a lecture this month by former President Bill Clinton at the University of Kansas.

Tickets became available at 11 this morning at the Lied Center, where Clinton will deliver the inaugural Dole Lecture at 2:15 p.m. May 21.

Despite a heavy rain, about 3,000 people showed up in person at the Lied Center and 65,000 phone calls were made to the box office, university officials said.

Due to the enormous interest, plans are being made to broadcast Clinton's speech on television and radio. Details will be announced shortly.

"We wish we could accommodate everyone who wants to see President Clinton. The response has been overwhelming," said Richard Konzem, associate director of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics, which is sponsoring the speech.
