Center for Campus Life to honor nontraditional scholars May 15

LAWRENCE -- Nontraditional Student Services in the Center for Campus Life at the University of Kansas will honor 16 recipients of 2004-05 scholarships during the Nontraditional Student Graduate and Scholarship Recipient Reception. The reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in the Jayhawk Room of the Kansas Union.

Nontraditional scholarships include the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Nontraditional Student Leadership Scholarships, Mary C. Breakey Scholarships, Soad El-Hodiri Scholarships and the Paula Gottdenker Scholarships. The 16 scholarships provided a combined $14,360 for tuition.

Scholarships are awarded to nontraditional students according to donor criteria. Nontraditional status includes undergraduates who commute 10 miles or more to campus, parents of dependent children, married students, veterans, students three or more years older than classmates and graduate students age 25 or older.

Kaela D. Byers, sophomore in social work, graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Johnson County Community College; EOF Nontraditional Student Leadership Scholarship.
Hillary Ann Gerling, junior in human biology, graduate of Lawrence High School; Soad El-Hodiri Scholarship.
Terri Jene Hildebrand, doctoral student in botany, received bachelor's degree from Black Hills State University, South Dakota; Mary C. Breakey Scholarship.
Vickie Lynn Kennedy, doctoral student in sociology, graduate of Lawrence High School, received master's and bachelor's degrees from KU; Paula Gottdenker Scholarship.
Gaia Renae Schellman, senior in music education, graduate of Lawrence Free State High School; EOF Nontraditional Student Leadership Scholarship.
Clinton Kenneth Turner, freshman in political science, graduate of Southeast High School, Bradenton, Fla.; EOF Nontraditional Student Leadership Scholarship.
