KU faculty, staff commit $24.9 million during the University Family Campaign

LAWRENCE -- University of Kansas faculty, staff and retirees have pledged more than $24.9 million so far during the University Family Campaign, KU and Kansas University Endowment Association officials announced Saturday.

Officials presented an oversized check representing the current total at the KU vs. Colorado football game Saturday. The total on the check was $24,973,227.31 pledged or given by 3,205, or 27 percent, of faculty, staff and retirees from KU's four campuses.

The University Family Campaign is part of KU First: Invest in Excellence, the third and largest campaign in KU history. Led by committees of faculty, staff and students, the University Family Campaign seeks to raise gifts from classified and unclassified staff members and retirees.

“ The extraordinary generosity of KU faculty, staff and retirees demonstrates an unwavering support for the quality of the university,” Chancellor Robert Hemenway said. “They are a major reason behind the success of KU First.”

Gifts raised through the University Family Campaign count toward the goal of raising in excess of $600 million for KU First.

The Kansas University Endowment Association is conducting KU First on behalf of KU through 2004 to raise funds for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, capital projects and program support. KU Endowment is an independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fund-raising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university and one of the largest.
