KU student center focused on access and achievement changes name to AAAC

LAWRENCE -- The center that oversees Academic Support and Disability Resources has a new name, has promoted its director and has added new areas of responsibility and staff.

The Student Development Center and Services for Students with Disabilities are now the Academic Achievement and Access Center under the leadership of director Mary Ann Rasnak. The center will now also include Thematic Learning Communities and the Orientation Seminar Course.

Linda Dixon has been named associate program director of Thematic Learning Communities, and a search is underway for a TLC program director.

The name change for the center, which is on the first level of Strong Hall, reflects its focus on academic achievement and access for all KU students.

Rasnak, who has a doctorate from Northern Illinois University, has been director of the Student Development Center since 1998 and of Services for Students with Disabilities since 2002.

Dixon has been at KU since 2000 and has been interim coordinator of Thematic Learning Communities since June 2003.
