KU to honor 65 high school seniors in Emporia on Nov. 17

LAWRENCE -- Students from 10 Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Nov. 17, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

A total of 65 seniors from Chase, Coffey, Lyon and Morris county high schools will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. program at Emporia State University Student Union, 12th and Commercial in Emporia.

Honorees' names are listed below.

David Adkins, vice chancellor for external affairs at the KU Medical Center, will speak. Kansas Alumni Association representative Heath Peterson, director of Adams Alumni Center, is in charge of award presentations.

The dinner program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Gary Ace of Emporia will be the site coordinator and Lyon County coordinator. The coordinators for other counties will be Brian Fillinger, Emporia, Chase County; Polly Epting and Ken Vaughn, both of Burlington, Coffey County; and Jody Sellers, Council Grove, Morris County.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 89,875 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
