Architecture lecture series brings international experts to KU campus

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Design will bring 12 more professional architects and designers to campus this year for its 2004-05 lecture series.

The lectures are free and open to the public. Dawn Schuette opened the series Oct. 11 speaking on ■The Integration of Acoustics and Architecture: The Design of the New Omaha Perfoming Arts Center.˙

-- Oct. 29: Jason McLennan: BNIM/Elements founder and director, Kansas City, Mo., Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union.
-- Nov. 3: Bill Zahner, chief executive of A. Zahner Co., Kansas City, Mo., Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union.
-- Nov. 15: Odile Decq, principal, Odile Decq and Benoit Cornette Architects, Paris. Spahr Classroom, Eaton Hall.
-- Feb. 2, 2005: Sheila Kennedy, principal, Kennedy and Violich Architecture, Boston. Location to be announced.
-- Feb. 16: Sports Facilities, HNTB, Kansas City, Mo.; HOK, Kansas City, Mo.; Ellerbe Becket, Kansas City, Mo. Time and location to be announced.
-- Michael Sorkin, principal, Michael Sorkin Studio, New York, professor and director of Urban Design Program, City College of New York. Time, date and location to be announced.
-- Larry Bowne, assistant professor, Kansas State University. Time, date and location to be announced.
-- March 16: Joan Ockman, adjunct associate professor and director, Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture, Columbia University. Ballroom, Kansas Union.
-- March 30: Zaha Hadid, principal, Zaha Hadid Architects, London. Big 12 Room, Kansas Union.
-- April 6: Peter Cook, professor and chair, The Bartlett School of Architecture, London. Big 12 Room, Kansas Union.
-- April 11: Alan Jacobs, professor emeritus, University of California-Berkeley, and former director of planning for the city of San Francisco. Time and location to be announced.
