KU First reception at the Outlook to recognize faculty, staff participants

LAWRENCE -- Lawrence faculty and staff members who participated in the University Family Campaign will be honored at a reception Oct. 11 at the Outlook, home of KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway.

Hors d'oeuvres will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. on the lawn, and faculty and staff who have participated in the campaign will be able to pick up a free T-shirt. Additional events to honor faculty and staff members of KU campuses in Kansas City and Wichita and at the University of Kansas Hospital are also being planned.

The University Family Campaign is part of KU First: Invest in Excellence, the third and largest fund-raising campaign in KU history. Led by committees of faculty, staff and students, the campaign seeks to raise gifts from classified and unclassified staff members. To date, more than 3,155, or 27 percent, of faculty and staff from KUs four campuses have participated.

"We are pleased that more than a quarter of the employees from all campuses helped the University Family Campaign," Hemenway said. "Their gifts demonstrate an unwavering support for the quality of the university."

University Family Campaign gifts count toward the goal of raising in excess of $600 million for KU First. The Kansas University Endowment Association is conducting KU First on behalf of KU through 2004 to raise support for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, capital projects and program support. KU Endowment serves as the independent, nonprofit fund-raising and fund-management organization for KU.
