Chancellor, provost to discuss plans at Faculty-Staff Convocation

LAWRENCE -- University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Shulenburger each will make presentations at the annual Faculty-Staff Convocation at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in 130 Budig Hall.

Fall Convocation is an annual event bringing together KU faculty and staff to talk about the goals and aspirations of the university.

This year, Hemenway plans to discuss KU's tuition plan, as well as other sources of revenue to the university, and to provide an update on the new integrated marketing plan.

In his remarks, Shulenburger plans to talk about the upcoming North Central Association accreditation procedure and findings from the self-study process.

Shulenburger also will acknowledge recipients of this year's distinguished teaching awards and the several teaching awards established by former Chancellor Gene Budig and his wife, Gretchen. Shulenburger will announce the recipient of the Provost's Award for Leadership in International Education, while James Roberts, vice provost for research, will introduce recipients of the Higuchi/Endowment Research Achievement Awards.

Also speaking will be Del Shankel, interim president and CEO of the Kansas Alumni Association; and Susan Twombly, professor of teaching and leadership and the University Council president.

After the convocation, a reception for faculty and staff will take place in the new Wescoe Underground (formerly Wescoe Terrace).
