Democratic strategist, Gore campaign leader Brazile to speak at Dole Institute

LAWRENCE -- Nationally known Democratic strategist Donna Brazile will discuss the importance of civic involvement and political activism at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas.
A book signing and reception will follow the lecture. All events are free and open to the public.

" Donna Brazile's story is incredible," said Bill Lacy, Dole Institute director. "She has reached the highest levels of politics and is involved for all the right reasons."

Brazile, who was Vice President Al Gore's national campaign manager in the 2000 presidential election, has held a number of major roles working for such figures as Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. She is managing director of Brazile & Associates, a political consulting and grassroots organizing firm. Brazile also chairs the Democratic National Committee's Voting Rights Institute and is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

The best-selling author of "Cooking with Grease: Stirring the Pots in American Politics," Brazile is a frequent contributor and political commentator on CNN's "Inside Politics" and "Crossfire." In addition, she is a columnist for Roll Call, a newspaper that serves Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and a contributing writer for Ms. Magazine.

" Donna's book is outstanding," Lacy said. "Her message on the importance of taking an active role in politics is compelling."

The Dole Institute, established at KU in 1997 to honor the former Senate majority leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, is designed to encourage student participation and citizen involvement in public service. The institute houses Dole's papers, the world's largest collection associated with a congressional leader. For more information about the institute, visit or call (785) 864-4900.
