Dole Institute program to tackle issue of doping in sports May 3

LAWRENCE -- The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas will host a panel discussion by noted sports writers and an NFL star on the use of drugs in professional sports at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the institute. The event is free and open to the public.

Panelists will include influential baseball writer and statistician Bill James, KU and NFL football great John Hadl, and sports journalist Bill Althaus.

" Unfortunately, doping scandals seem to be popping up in almost any imaginable sport, from cycling to track to football," said Jonathan Earle, associate director of the institute. "And the recent news about steroids in Major League Baseball -- the national pastime -- made it a significant political issue. This panel should be a great way to air out these issues in our community, one of the most sophisticated sports towns in the nation."

For more information, contact the institute at (785) 864-4900 or visit The Dole Institute is located at 2350 Petefish Drive, next to the Lied Center of Kansas on KU's West Campus.
