re: Phi Kappa Theta citations

LAWRENCE — Marlesa Roney, vice provost for student success at the University of Kansas, issued the following statement today in response to the Lawrence Police report of eight citations at an unregistered fraternity event Saturday. The violations involved state alcohol regulations and university policies on fraternity functions and the consumption of alcohol.

" I am dismayed by the allegations of a willful and egregious violation of university policies and, frankly, the trust of our community. We take these allegations very seriously and will file a formal complaint tomorrow morning to initiate a thorough investigation by the Interfraternity Council. The University will not tolerate such behavior."

All KU Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic Association (PHA) member chapters are required by university policy to operate in a manner consistent with all University, local, state and federal laws and policies concerning the sale, purchase, serving or consumption of alcohol.

All functions and events must be registered with the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association so that the council and association can determine if social events are in accordance with alcohol and risk management policies. The purchase or use of a bulk quantity of common sources of such alcoholic beverage, e.g. kegs or cases, is strictly prohibited. There shall be no purchase of beer tabs, tickets, etc., for an unlimited quantity of alcohol.
