Statement by Chancellor Hemenway on death of student Stephanie Hoyt

University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway made the following statement today in response to the death of KU student Stephanie Hoyt of Kansas City, Kan. Hoyt, 19, died Wednesday in a two-car collision on Interstate 35 near El Dorado. Three other KU students -- Genevie Gold, Sharon Wright and Rachel Kannaday, all 19 and all from Kansas City, Kan. -- were injured and are hospitalized in Wichita. All the women were 2004 graduates of Sumner Academy. Hoyt had completed her first semester at KU this spring and was majoring in English.

" On behalf of the entire KU community, I want to express my profound sorrow at the death of Stephanie Hoyt. We are all deeply saddened at the tragic loss of this promising young woman and offer our condolences to her family and friends.
