KU student caller brings in six-figure funds for KU Endowment Association

LAWRENCE -- Annie Truong is already bringing in six figures as a 21-year-old junior at the University of Kansas.

However, Truong won't get to keep the money. Instead the more than $100,000 she has "earned" will go toward the Annual Fund for the Kansas University Endowment Association, where Truong works as a Jaytalker, or student caller.

Truong, who studies business administration and marketing, is only the second Jaytalker in KU Endowment history to raise this amount, which earned her the highest honor of the annual telephone campaign, membership in the Platinum Calling Society.

Truong is the daughter of Tan and Theresa Truong of Wichita and is a graduate of Kapaun Mount Carmel High School. She began calling for the telefund in September 2002. She has completed more than 3,500 telephone calls and has received more than 800 pledges from KU alumni.

" I think it is amazing that KU has so many generous donors," Truong said. "I truly appreciate their contributions both as a caller and as an Endowment Scholarship recipient."

The Jaytalkers are a part of KU Endowment's Annual Giving department. Last year the Jaytalkers raised more than $1.1 million through telephone campaigns. These funds support scholarships, faculty, library resources and a wide variety of other purposes as specified by the donors. Annual Giving employs more than 50 student callers and managers who contact alumni and friends of the university to raise gifts to support KU.

KU Endowment is an independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fund-raising and fund-management foundation for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is the oldest foundation of its type at a public university in the United States and one of the largest.
