Novelist Kent Haruf to present Eberhardt Lecture at KU April 6

LAWRENCE -- Award-winning novelist Kent Haruf will speak at the University of Kansas on Wednesday, April 6, as an Eberhardt lecturer for the Department of English.

Haruf's most recent novel, "Eventide," continues the saga of life on the high plains that he began in the best-selling "Plainsong." He will give a reading from 4 to 5 p.m. in Alderson Auditorium at the Kansas Union. At 7:30 p.m., Haruf will present an informal talk in the Spencer Museum of Art auditorium. Both events are free and open to the public.

Haruf has written a series of critically acclaimed novels set on the plains of eastern Colorado. "Plainsong" won the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the New Yorker Book Award. Haruf's honors include a Whiting Foundation Award and a special citation from the PEN/Hemingway Foundation.

Haruf's visit is sponsored by the English department's John F. Eberhardt Excellence in Writing Memorial Fund and the Office of the Chancellor. For more information contact Marjorie Swann at (785) 864-2570 or mswann@ku.edu.
