Transportation safety conference to feature leading highway safety experts

WICHITA— The Kansas Department of Transportation and the University of Kansas Continuing Education have invited transportation safety officials from across the region to gather in Wichita on May 24-25 for a conference entitled "Fatalities -- Rolling Back the Numbers."

Law enforcement officers, public officials, educators, emergency workers, and other interested parties will discuss a wide range of issues during breakout sessions centered on four themes: youth, law enforcement, injury control, and roadway safety.

Mark M. Hood of Peak Performance in Topeka will deliver the keynote address, and Mike Jockers of the St. Petersburg, Fla. Police Department will speak at the plenary session luncheon. Jockers will discuss Where's Jockers?, a successful initiative he developed to reduce the number of crashes along several city corridors.

" Our goal is to provide our local officials with the most up-to-date information from leading safety experts," said Pete Bodyk, KDOT's Traffic Safety Bureau chief. "Every segment of the transportation safety community will benefit from this conference."
