KU offers indoor simulcast of commencement, other accessibility aids

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas will provide, in the air-conditioned comfort of its student union, a live telecast of this year's commencement.

The 133rd annual commencement, including the procession down Mount Oread and the conferral of degrees in Memorial Stadium, will be shown in Woodruff Auditorium on the fifth floor of the Kansas Union. The procession will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22. The video presentation will begin at about 1:30 p.m.

The simulcast is provided specifically for people for whom the physical conditions in Memorial Stadium would be a barrier to their attendance at commencement.
Sign language interpreters will be available in the bowl of the stadium. Reserved seating also will be available for people who need special assistance, including people in wheelchairs.

A live broadcast of the commencement ceremony will be produced courtesy of Rock Chalk Video and presented by the university television station, KUJH-TV, on channel 14 and on Sunflower Broadband channel 31 in Lawrence. The full ceremony will air again at 7 p.m. May 22 and 23. Videotape of the ceremony may be purchased for $15 at

Woodruff Auditorium's room capacity is limited to 500 guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

Buses will run from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 22 on a looping route that serves the stadium, the Kansas Union and various parking areas on campus.
