Ettredge named to Crown/Sherr professorship in School of Business

LAWRENCE -- Professor Michael Ettredge has been appointed to the Crown/Sherr Teaching Professorship at the University of Kansas School of Business.

Tim Crown, a KU business school graduate and chairman for Insight Enterprises Inc., a leading technology solutions provider in Tempe, Ariz., endowed the Crown/Sherr professorship as an incentive to recruit and retain top faculty at the school. The professorship recognizes the outstanding teaching career of Professor Larry Sherr, who taught at KU for 33 years before retiring in 1998.

" The power to dream, the power to achieve, the power of accomplishment come first from our teachers," Crown said. "The power to recognize these great men and women can come in almost any form. This is my way to recognize and pay tribute."

The professorship is awarded to a full professor of business who demonstrates a history of high-quality teaching and student support, has a distinguished and active research program and has a demonstrated record of accomplished service to the School of Business and the university.

" Mike's record of achievement at the KU School of Business is exceptional," said Dean Bill Fuerst. "Not only has he engaged in high-quality research, but he provides great value in the classroom and has been a valuable asset to our school."

Ettredge started at KU in 1982 as an assistant professor in accounting, leaving briefly for Washington State University in 1987 before returning in 1993. He teaches introductory and intermediate financial accounting to MBA students and presents seminars to doctoral students about empirical research in accounting. His research focuses on the economics of the accounting profession, the effects of financial reporting rule changes and Internet dissemination of financial information.

Ettredge has degrees from Rice University, Brigham Young University and the University of Texas at Austin. He received the Outstanding Mentor Award from the Association of Business Doctoral Students, the Excellence in Teaching Award from the KU Center of Teaching Excellence and the School of Business Oswald Research Award.
