KU piano freshman wins opportunity to perform with orchestra in St. Louis

LAWRENCE -- University of Kansas piano freshman Nicholas "Nick" James Susi of St. Louis, Mo., recently took first place in a competition that awarded him a spot in a symphony performance Sunday, Oct. 16, in St. Louis.

Susi, studying piano under Professor Jack Winerock in the Department of Music and Dance in KU's School of Fine Arts, recently won first prize in the 2005 Very Young Artist Award competition. He performed Dmitri Shostakovich's Concerto No. 1 for piano, trumpet and strings. Susi was rewarded with a featured performance with the Webster University Symphony Orchestra, where he will perform Totentanz by Franz Liszt.

Susi will perform with the Webster University Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, in the E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall at The Community Music School of Webster University in St. Louis. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Prices are available by calling (314) 968-7040.

Susi is the son of Jesse and Janet Susi of St. Louis. He attended DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis.
