40 KU Choir members to tour Wichita, Pratt, Meade, Dodge City Oct. 18-20

LAWRENCE -- Under the direction of John Paul Johnson, University of Kansas music professor, 40 members of the KU Chamber Choir will be performing Oct. 18 through 20 in Wichita, Pratt, Meade and Dodge City.

The tour offers the KU students an opportunity to perform in Kansas communities and residents of these communities an opportunity to hear the talent of a group that includes many Kansans.
The tour is made possible with a gift from KU alumnus Dr. Robert Daugherty, originally from Meade in southwest Kansas, who remembered enjoying hearing the KU Chamber Choir perform in his hometown in 1952.

As a Meade High School student, Daugherty sang with the high school chorus and as a KU student he met and married Sandra Keller, who performed with the KU Choir. They both received bachelors degrees in 1956 (he in chemistry and she in English) and medical degrees at KU in 1960. Daugherty has since established the Sandra Keller Daugherty Fund to support choral programs at KU in her memory. Through the memorial fund, administered by the KU Endowment Association, Daugherty has been a longtime supporter of KU's choral program. His most recent gift provides funds for transportation, food and hotel accommodations, as well as additional needs for the choir.

KU Chamber Choir performances are scheduled for:

-- 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Northwest High School, 1220 N. Tyler Road, Wichita
(combined with the choirs of Northwest High School)

-- 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, Pratt High School, 401 S. Hamilton (a program for the high school and middle school choirs)

-- 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, at First United Methodist Church, 201 Soule, Dodge City

-- 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Meade High School, 409 School Addition
