Tag sale to benefit kids art classes; popular costume sale coming soon

LAWRENCE -- Two upcoming sales events on the University of Kansas campus have been scheduled:

The Spencer Museum of Art's "Dollars for Scholars Tag Sale ," an event organized by Spencer docents to endow a scholarship fund for the museum's Saturday Children's Art Appreciation Classes, will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 in the museum's Central Court.

"The Central Court will be filled with tables of interesting objects donated by members of the Lawrence community that will attract everyone-long-time museum supporters as well as those who have never visited the museum before," says Jerrye Van Leer, the Spencer's tour and docent program coordinator. "

Sale items include paintings by local artists, an array of posters, prints, and photographs, hundreds of pieces of costume jewelry, handsome art books, beautiful china and crystal, a number of antiques and collectibles, turn-of-the-century quilts and other textiles, furniture, and a wide variety of ethnic art from around the world. Several items, including a framed watercolor by the late Michael Ott, will be auctioned on the evening of the event.

The University Theatre will hold its semi-annual Halloween Costume Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in Room 209 of Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive. The sale offers costumes and accessories formerly used in productions, ranging from full customes to odds and ends like helmets.

"We've got fantasy costumes from 'The Magic Flute'," said Susan Rendall, costume Shop manager,, "as well as 80's retro clothes, fancy party dresses, and turn-of-the-century outfits for men and women."
