Annual Collage Concert to feature visiting artist's piano performance

LAWRENCE -- The sixth annual Collage Concert, presented by the University of Kansas School of Fine Arts, will at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the Lied Center. The concert features visual and performing arts faculty and students from the school's art, design, music and dance departments in a fast-paced program of dance; vocal and instrumental performances; and video presentations.

A highlight this year will be the performance of visiting composer/artist in residence Gabriela Lena Frank, who will perform a piano piece she wrote that is based on South American folk music, mythology and poetry. A preview of her performance will be broadcast at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, on Kansas Public Radio, KANU-FM 91.5.

Also performing Friday: the KU Wind Ensemble, Men's Glee Club, Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Percussion Ensemble and, in the traditional finale, the Marching Jayhawks. Among the faculty featured are Carol Ann Carter, professor of art; Kip Haaheim, assistant professor of music and dance; Patrick Suzeau, associate professor of music and dance.

Tickets cost $12 for adults or $7 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Lied Center and Murphy Hall box offices or by calling 864-ARTS or 864-3982.

After the concert, the School of Fine Arts will hold a fundraising reception in the Seymour Gallery at the Lied Center. Tickets for the reception are $75, which includes entry into the concert. For reception tickets, call 864-3421. Proceeds benefit the School of Fine Arts Educational Enhancement Fund.
