Planning ahead: KU announces 2006 all-university special events dates

LAWRENCE -- All-university special events in conjunction with home football games at the University of Kansas have been scheduled for fall 2006, Margey Frederick, director of Visitor Services and Special Events, announced today.

" Our committee was pleased to be able to reach consensus on these dates a year in advance," Frederick said. "Many of our schools and departments plan their fall socials, fund-raising events and alumni gatherings in conjunction with our all-university fall events, and this early announcement will help them with their planning."

Band Day and Family Weekend will take place jointly in 2006. Family Weekend will be Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9, with Band Day on Sept. 9. KU will play football against Florida International University at 6 p.m.

Homecoming Week will begin Sunday, Oct. 1, and end with Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006. The football team will play Big 12 opponent Texas A&M. Game time will be announced later. The annual meeting and brunch for The Chancellors Club, the University's major-donor organization, will be Oct. 6 and 7, 2006.

Scholar's Day, when high-achieving KU students are recognized on the football field, will be on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, during the game against Big 12 opponent University of Colorado. Game time will be announced later.
