'Saturday Night Live' performers headline homecoming festivities Oct. 22-29

LAWRENCE -- "Saturday Night Live" comedic actors Kenan Thompson and Seth Meyers will perform as part of a busy Homecoming celebration Oct. 22 to 29 at the University of Kansas.

"We're very excited to get such large talent as Kenan and Seth," said Dustin Curzon, Broken Arrow, Okla, sophomore and special events co-chairman for the 2005 Homecoming committee. "The whole goal of homecoming the last several years has been to revive the week to its glory days. In the past, such shows as James Taylor and Elton John came to Lawrence."

KU homecoming will feature returning favorites from last year such as "Jayhawk Idol," the basketball tournament and 'Can'struction. New events include a pumpkin pie eating contest and a KU medallion hunt in which students will get clues from the University Daily Kansan to find an object on campus to win a prize.

"Homecoming is important because it's a chance for alumni, students and friends of the university to all come together and remember why KU is such an incredible place," said Katie Smith, Tucson, Ariz., senior and alumni events chairwoman.

Meyers, who often portrayed John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign on "SNL," and Thompson, who has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows including "Barbershop 2" and "My Boss's Daughter," will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Lied Center. Reserved seating tickets are $10 for KU students; all other tickets will be $15. They are available at the Student Union Activities box office and online at For more information, call 864-SHOW.
