National Intelligence University leader to lecture on homeland security Oct. 4 at KU

LAWRENCE -- William Nolte, chancellor of the National Intelligence University, will deliver the lecture "National Intelligence and Homeland Security: What's New, What's Changing" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas.

"This event gives us a chance to talk about issues central to a university like KU in the 21st century," said Jonathan Earle, Dole Institute associate director. "What role should academia play in homeland security and intelligence gathering? Chancellor Nolte will give us some answers to this challenging question."

The lecture is free and open to the public.

In addition to his post at the National Intelligence University in suburban Washington, D.C., Nolte is director of education and training in the office of the Director of National Intelligence.

A career National Security Agency officer, he is also a former deputy assistant director of central intelligence and director of training, chief of legislative affairs and senior intelligence adviser at the National Security Agency. He has taught at several Washington-area universities, is on the board of CIA's Center for Studies in Intelligence and has directed the Intelligence Fellows Program.

The National Intelligence University, an administrative umbrella over the training and education institutions run by the 15 U.S. spy agencies, was created at the recommendation of the president's Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction, which issued a report in June.
