KU Beta Theta Pi chapter wins 4 national awards at convention

LAWRENCE - The Alpha Nu chapter of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the University of Kansas won four awards at the national convention in August in Scottsdale, Ariz.

KU's chapter won the John Reily Knox Chapter Excellence Award, the Francis H. Sisson Award, the Whitman Choral Cup and the Virginia Tech Award for academic excellence.

This marks the first time KU's chapter has received the Knox award and the 16th time it has won a Sisson award. The Knox award, named for the fraternity's founder, is the highest award a chapter can receive. Nine of 123 chapters won the Knox award this year.

Knox award recognizes chapters that have met a number of requirements demonstrating leadership, scholarship and community service.

The Sisson award recognizes overall chapter operations.

The Virginia Tech award honored the KU chapter for placing first in academic achievement, with 20 members earning grade point-averages of 4.0, the highest achievable, and having 60 percent of its membership earning honor roll status.

To win the Whitman Choral Cup, KU's chapter submitted a recorded song demonstrating outstanding harmony, timing and participation.
