Traffic rerouting to begin this week to allow construction of Docking Gateway

LAWRENCE — Traffic rerouting will begin this week to allow construction of the Docking Family Gateway at the University of Kansas. Work is scheduled to begin April 11 or 12.

Traffic traveling north on Jayhawk Boulevard will be detoured east at 14th Street to Louisiana Street. It will proceed north to 13th Street, then west to 13th Street and Oread Avenue.

KU on Wheels and city of Lawrence T buses will be allowed to proceed through the construction site. Some delays should be expected.

Southbound traffic will be able to continue through the construction site. A temporary traffic control booth has been constructed near 14th Street and Jayhawk Boulevard to assume the function of the booth near 13th Street that was demolished to make way for the gateway.

The gateway will feature a fountain with vertical jets of water in a round plaza with stone signage and landscaping. The project is being funded by a donation from KU alumna Jill Docking and her husband, former Lt. Gov. Tom Docking.
