Rock Chalk Roadshow annual trip across Kansas includes prizes for students

LAWRENCE — For the fourth year, University of Kansas staff will take the “Rock Chalk Roadshow” to 50 high schools and community colleges in central and western Kansas, beginning Sunday, Aug. 27, and ending Friday, Sept. 1.

The Rock Chalk Roadshow will cover more than 2,500 miles in a swing through 43 cities in 34 counties to meet school counselors during the day and with parents and students in evening receptions in five cities. Students attending may enter a drawing to win prizes such as a $500 textbook certificate when the student enrolls at KU, free registration for a KU campus visit, tickets to KU vs. Colorado football game and more.

The evening events for parents and students are in the following communities:

— Great Bend: Barton County Community College Fine Arts building room 30, 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27.
— Liberal: Seward County Community College Student Activities building, 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28.
— Garden City: Garden City Community College Beth Tedrow Student Center, 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29.
— Colby: Colby Community College Student Union room 106, 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 30.
— Salina: Salina Bicentennial Center, 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31.

Staff members attending include representatives from the Office of Admissions and Scholarships and representatives from various offices on the KU campus.

“As students prepare for a busy year and the college search process, this is a great opportunity for students and parents to learn about KU,” said Lisa Pinamonti Kress, director of the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. “Everything from ‘why choose KU’ to the admissions and scholarship application process will be discussed.”

The daily itinerary for the roadshow includes stops at the following high schools and community colleges, listed alphabetically for each day:

Monday, Aug. 28: Barton County Community College, Great Bend; Bucklin High School; Great Bend High School; Greensburg High School; Kinsley High School; Larned High School; Meade High School; Minneola High School; Spearville High School; St. John High School.

Tuesday, Aug. 29: Cimarron High School; Dodge City Community College; Dodge City High School; Holcomb High School; Hugoton High School; Liberal High School; Seward County Community College, Liberal; South Gray High School, Montezuma; Stanton County High School, Johnson; Sublette High School; Ulysses High School.

Wednesday, Aug. 30: Dighton High School; Garden City Community College; Garden City High School; Goodland High School; Greeley County High School, Tribune; Lakin High School; Oakley High School; Scott Community High School, Scott City; Syracuse High School; Wallace County High School, Sharon Springs; Wheatland High School, Grainfield.

Thursday, Aug. 31: Colby High School; Ellis High School; Hays High School; Hill City High School; Hoxie High School; Osborne High School; Quinter Rural High School; Stockton High School; Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Hays; Trego Community High School, WaKeeney.

Friday Sept. 1: Abilene High School; Chapman High School; Junction City High School; Sacred Heart High School, Salina; Salina Central High School; Salina South High School; Solomon High School; Southeast of Saline High School, Gypsum.
