LAWRENCE — The Marching Jayhawks, the University of Kansas marching band, will entertain at a KU pep rally at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Farm Bureau Arena at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

Under the direction of new conductor David Clemmer, the Marching Jayhawks will make their second appearance in recent years at the state fair.

Jim Peters, KU director of marketing for Continuing Education, will emcee the event, which will include other KU staff and several T-shirt tosses. The KU Spirit Squad and mascot will also entertain.

Throughout the Kansas State Fair, held Sept. 8-17, KU will host a booth in the Meadowlark Building. More than 115 KU faculty, staff and alumni volunteers will staff the booth.

Fairgoers can register to win one of five KU T-shirts to be given away. They can also receive free face tattoos, magnets, bookmarks, football posters and Jayhawk fans. An informational video about KU will be shown, and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions.

The KU Bookstores will also have a booth in the Meadowlark Building, where they will sell KU merchandise.

Approximately 300,000 people annually attend the Kansas State Fair.
