Two KU students win scholarships to study in Japan this year

LAWRENCE — Two University of Kansas juniors have been selected to receive Japan Student Services Organization Scholarships to study in Japan for the 2006-07 academic year.

R.D. Andrew Stark, an East Asian languages and cultures and microbiology major from Yates Center, will study Japanese language, literature, history and culture at Obirin University in Tokyo.

Aaron Stickler, an East Asian languages and cultures major from Topeka, will focus on enhancing his Japanese language skills while studying at Fukuoka University.

The Japan Student Services Organization conducts programs to provide scholarships and educational loans to international students, promote study abroad in Japan and create a base for international exchange. Scholarships are given directly to Japanese universities for incoming exchange students.

KU students interested in applying for scholarships for study in Japan should contact Renée Frias, program coordinator in the Office of Study Abroad, at (785) 864-3742.

From Topeka
Aaron Stickler is majoring in East Asian languages and cultures. Stickler will study at Fukuoka University. He is the son of Jodie Bevans.

From Yates Center
R.D. Andrew Stark is majoring in East Asian languages and cultures and microbiology. Stark will study at Obirin University in Tokyo. He is the son of Ronald and Judith Stark and a graduate of Yates Center High School.
