KU Alumni Association plans Aug. 18 football rally with Mark Mangino

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Alumni Association and Kansas Athletics will host a KU Kickoff Rally featuring Head Football Coach Mark Mangino from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Corinth Square parking lot in Prairie Village. The rally will be free for all KU alumni, friends and students.

Mangino will share the latest football news and his outlook for the season. The rally will include an inflatable fun zone for kids and appearances from emcee and KU alumnus John Holt of Fox 4 News, the KU Spirit Squad, KU Pep Band and Big Jay mascot. 610 Sports Radio, the new network for KU sports in Kansas City, will broadcast live from the rally.

Food vendors will be on hand, and Alumni Association members who show their membership cards will receive a free slice of pizza or hamburger from Johnny’s Tavern. Everyone who signs up to become an Alumni Association member at the event will be entered in a drawing to receive an autographed football, and all attendees will have a chance to win four tickets to the homecoming game against Texas A&M. After the program, guests can stay to enjoy the sounds of local band Recess.

The Jayhawks will play seven home games in Memorial Stadium in 2006. Public season tickets are $225. Faculty-staff season tickets are $180, and recent graduate packages are $150 (2004-06 graduation date). Family-Zone packages are also available for $300. The Family-Zone, located in the North Bowl, includes two adult and two youth general admission tickets. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.kuathletics.com or by contacting the ticket office at 800-34-HAWKS.
