KU Continuing Education to offer class on author Toni Morrison

LAWRENCE — Continuing Education at the University of Kansas is adding a new course to its online independent study curriculum. Contemporary Authors: Toni Morrison (ENGL 324) will be available to students throughout Kansas and across the nation for three hours of academic credit.

The course, which explores eight novels by the Nobel Prize-winning author, is a partnership of KU, Northern Kentucky University and the Toni Morrison Society. Maryemma Graham, KU professor of English and president of the Morrison society, is the principal investigator for the National Endowment for the Humanities grant, “Language Matters II, Reading and Teaching Toni Morrison,” which supported development of the course.

Giselle Anatol, KU associate professor of English, is the course instructor. Prominent faculty from the University of Pennsylvania, Indiana State University and Georgetown University will give presentations on Morrison’s novels.

KU’s Independent Study Program offers more than 150 distance-education courses on a nonsemester basis. Student can enroll and begin their courses throughout the year.
