KU history department announces new Phi Alpha Theta honor society members

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas chapter of Phi Alpha Theta national history honor society honored 22 student initiates at a recognition reception May 13 at the Adams Alumni Center.

Students were invited to join Phi Alpha Theta if they had completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in history courses with a grade-point average of at least 3.1 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. They do not have to be history majors to be eligible for membership.

Phi Alpha Theta seeks to promote the study of history by encouraging research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. The KU and national chapters offer members opportunities to present historical research at conventions and professional conferences.

Jonathan Earle, associate professor of history and associate director for academic programming at the Dole Institute of Politics, is faculty adviser to KU’s Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi Alpha Theta.
