KU alumni plan June 12 picnic in Colby to welcome new students from NW Kansas

LAWRENCE — New University of Kansas students and their parents from Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Wallace, Logan and Gove counties will be welcomed into the KU family at the Jayhawk Generations Welcome Picnic at 7 p.m. Monday, June 12, in Colby.

The KU Alumni Association and the Northwest chapter will greet the next generation of Jayhawks at Fike Park, Franklin Avenue and Eighth Street. Current KU students, alumni and university representatives will mix and mingle with students to answer questions and offer advice.

Jeff Manson of Goodland, Northwest chapter leader, and Heath Peterson, director of Kansas programs for the Alumni Association, are coordinating the event. Association staff will arrive with the signature KU trailer full of grills, burgers and brats for the festivities. Guests will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, and each new Jayhawk will receive a free T-shirt. The cost for area alumni is $6 per person.

For more information or to make reservations, visit the Alumni Association Web site, call (800) 584-2957 or e-mail
