KU chancellor issues statement on the death of professor Wallace S. Johnson
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway issued the following statement today on the death Tuesday of Wallace S. Johnson, professor of East Asian languages and cultures. Johnson, 74, taught at KU for 42 years and was the editor of the Journal of Asian Legal History.
“The University of Kansas has lost a popular professor and highly regarded scholar. During his long career at KU, Professor Johnson distinguished himself in his research into the legal history of China, much of which has been included in prestigious scholarly publications. He also dedicated himself to students and taught the most popular course in East Asian languages and cultures. On behalf of the KU community, I send condolences to his wife and son. He will be missed.”
