Peer Advisers chosen to help incoming students transition to KU

LAWRENCE — Twenty students at the University of Kansas have been chosen as Peer Advisers for 2009.

The Peer Advisers will work throughout the summer to assist new, transfer and readmitted students with their academic transitions to KU, particularly with the advising and enrollment process of orientation.

Three students from Olathe — Molly Jones, senior; Michael Partridge, junior; and Godfrey Riddle, sophomore — are returning for the second time as Peer Advisers. Samir Kashyap, a senior from Shawnee, will be a Peer Adviser for a third time.

Among their duties, the students will assist faculty, staff, incoming students, parents and guests with the advising process, act as resources for incoming students, help to prepare materials and provide other services as needed during orientation activities.

In addition to strong knowledge of KU’s academic areas, demonstrated leadership and communication skills, Peer Advisers have more than 70 hours of training to help to prepare them to work with incoming students.
