Military historian to give presentation on weaponry
LAWRENCE — Shawn Faulkner, professor of military history at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, will give a presentation at the University of Kansas titled “The History of Weaponry.”
Faulkner’s presentation will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Military Science Building. All of the weapons, some of which are more than 500 years old, come from Faulkner’s personal collection. A few of the weapons Faulkner will present are a medieval hand cannon, an 1864 Springfield rifled musket, a 45.70 Trapdoor Springfield rifle, an M1886 Lebel rifle, an M93 Spanish Mauser rifle and an M1928 Thompson submachine gun.
“Shawn Faulkner has long been recognized as a truly gifted military history instructor,” said Lt. Col. John Basso, professor of military science. “For nearly a decade Army officers attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth have benefited from his electric teaching style. We are very excited that he will be able to share his passion for military history, particularly given the hands-on nature of his history of infantry weapons class, with our cadets and other members of the University of Kansas family.”
Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC cadets and cadre will be in attendance. The event is open to the public; RSVP to Capt. Aaron Cornett at firstname.lastname@example.org so enough seating is made available.
