KU psychology department honors graduating seniors
LAWRENCE — About 200 seniors in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kansas were honored during the department’s graduate recognition ceremony May 15. Three students also received special awards.
Greg Simpson, professor and department chair, and Joseph Steinmetz, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, gave a welcome address to students and their guests.
Joseph Charles Tennant, graduating senior in psychology, was the keynote speaker. He is the outgoing communications director of Psi Chi, a national honors society in psychology.
Dennis Karpowitz, director of undergraduate studies in psychology, and Ruth Ann Atchley, director of the cognitive science undergraduate program, introduced each graduating senior. They then were congratulated by Simpson, Steinmetz, and Kim McNeley, assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Patricia Hawley, associate professor, presented engraved plaques to three graduating seniors. A reception followed the ceremony.

RaeAnn Anderson received the Award for Outstanding Research by an Undergraduate. She graduated with a degree in psychology. She is the daughter of David and Sara Anderson and a Jackson Heights High School graduate.
From Fort Leavenworth 66027
Joseph Charles Tennant gave the undergraduate keynote address. He graduated with a degree in psychology. He is the son of Stephen and Marianne Tennant and a Leavenworth Senior High School graduate.

Jay Justin Middleton received the Growth and Achievement Award recognizing an undergraduate who demonstrates outstanding academic performance. He earned degrees in psychology and communication studies. He is the son of Sandra Hinson.
From Wichita 67207
Hollie M. Dawson received the Senior Award for Outstanding Performance for all-around outstanding performance in academics, research and service to the department. She is the daughter of Mark and Sherri Dawson and graduated with a degree in psychology.
