KU social policy researchers issue 43rd Kansas Statistical Abstract

LAWRENCE — The Institute for Policy and Social Research at the University of Kansas has released the 43rd edition of the Kansas Statistical Abstract.

The abstract contains the latest-available state, county and city data for Kansas regarding population, health, housing, elections, education, business, manufacturing, employment, income, finance, state and local government, crime, parks and recreation, communications, transportation, agriculture, climate, energy and natural resources.

This is the 10th year that the publication has been available online. All the former editions also are online. For more information and access to the data, go to the Institute for Policy and Social Research Web site.

“Publishing the Kansas Statistical Abstract free and online is an important service we provide to the state of Kansas and its citizens,” said Steven Maynard-Moody, director of the Institute for Policy and Social Research. “We hope this enhanced edition of the 2008 KSA will serve as a valuable data resource.”

Included in the 43rd edition is a newly enhanced energy and natural resources chapter. This expanded chapter combines the former energy and mining and mineral resources chapters and expands the scope to include data and maps covering additional natural resources such as wind and solar capacity. In addition, selected maps in all chapters have better functionality when viewed in Adobe Acrobat, allowing users to view and print different layers of data on a single map.

The scope and breadth of the data found in the abstract (570 pages of data tables, maps and graphs available in Microsoft Excel or PDF) make it a useful book for citizens, officials, reporters, teachers, students and anyone with an interest in the state of Kansas.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
