12th annual Hilltop Hustle to benefit families in need

LAWRENCE — The 12th annual Hilltop Hustle 5K Run/Walk and 1K Family Fun Run, benefitting Hilltop Child Development Center, will be held at 8 a.m. April 30 on the University of Kansas campus. The event is sponsored by Francis Sporting Goods.

“It’s truly inspiring to see this event continue to grow each year,” said Pat Pisani, director of Hilltop Child Development Center. “We hope the KU and Lawrence communities show their support and help families in need by signing up. Everyone always has a good time.”

Participants can print registration forms online at people.ku.edu/~msc/hilltop. Registration cost is $25 for the 5K and $5 per person or $10 per family for the 1K. Registration forms and checks, made out to Hilltop Child Development Center, can be mailed to Hilltop Child Development Center, 1605 Irving Hill Road, Lawrence, KS, 66045.

All ages are welcome to participate, but no pets, rollerblades or bicycles are allowed on the certified course. Jog strollers are permitted.

Event highlights include door prizes that will be given away at the conclusion of the 5K. Local businesses have donated items such as gym memberships, martial arts lessons and dining and shopping gift cards.

Overall male and female winners will receive handmade pottery by local artist Alan Brummell. Overall winners in the Master’s (oldest male and female) category will receive massage gift certificates. The top three runners in each age group will also receive gold, silver or bronze medals, and each child participating in the 1K will receive a medal.

Hilltop Child Development Center, a private, nonprofit organization, has been serving the child care needs of the KU community since it opened its doors in 1972. The 12th annual Hilltop Hustle is designed to commemorate the many years of excellent care and education the children of Lawrence have received over the years and to help raise money for the emergency Families in Need Fund.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
