Olathe Northwest High School teacher wins Educating Excellence award

More Information

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Engineering and Perceptive Software have honored Olathe Northwest High School technology instructor Kevin Hulsen with the Educating Excellence award for January.

KU and Perceptive Software launched the Educating Excellence program in March 2010 to recognize outstanding Kansas and Kansas City-area high school science, technology, engineering and math teachers.

Hulsen is being recognized for his relentless commitment to student learning and technology education. In addition to his teaching commitments, Hulsen is the head coach of Olathe Northwest’s Technology Student Association. Through the association, he has helped 38 students become national qualifiers in eight consecutive years and hosted a regional competition for the past six years.

Representatives from the School of Engineering and Perceptive Software presented Hulsen with the $1,500 Educating Excellence award during a special assembly Jan. 24.

Each month throughout the 2010-11 academic year, a $1,500 award will be given to an outstanding Kansas or Kansas City-area teacher. Nine teachers in total will be recognized during the current academic year.

More information about the program is available at www.educatingexcellence.org.
